West London: High-rise apartment building engulfs in massive fire
A massive fire engulfed a high rise building of an apartment block in the west London on the early hours of Wednesday. The fire has put hundreds of firefighters at task who are battling the flames from the 2nd to top floor of the building.
According to the eye witnesses, the fire broke out in the 27-story Lancaster West Estate tower, when most of the residents of that block were in sleep.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are working extremely hard in very difficult conditions to tackle this fire,” London Fire Brigade assistant commissioner Dan Daly said.
“This is a large and very serious incident and we have deployed numerous resources and specialist appliances,” he said.
With reports that the building may now collapse, there are still hundreds of people trapped inside the building.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said a “major incident” had been declared.
