US underwater drone seized by China ‘to prevent danger to navigation’ – Chinese military

The Chinese has seized an American unarmed underwater device in the waters of the South Sea earlier this week was potentially “dangerous” to safe in the area, claimed, adding that the drone would be returned to the after its investigation. “China will continue to maintain vigilance against the relevant activities and will take necessary measures to deal with them,” the statement warned.

The device in question, which turned out to be an underwater drone apparently deployed by an American oceanographic vessel, would be transferred to the “through appropriate means,” the Defense Ministry spokesman said.

The incident in the South Sea that has triggered fears of further between the two countries. A Chinese lifeboat seized the unmanned device before the survey ship, the Bowditch, who it belonged to, managed to do so some 100 miles off the coast at Subic Bay in Philippines, where the has a naval base.
