Nepal-China military drills kick start amid of India’s tensive relations with the two countries

As the influence in the region is evaporating rapidly, and together embark on a 10-day drill for the very first time in the history of their strategic relations.

The first ever exercise between the two countries kick started in Kathmandu, the capital of on Sunday.

According to the officials, the are focused on counter-terrorism and is dubbed as “Sargarmatha Friendship 2017”, referring to the mount Everest in Nepalese language.

The are taking place at a time when relations between and are very tense and China-India relations are also facing rivalry as both the countries are competing for supremacy in the region. The preparation of the were supervised by China’s Defence Minister Chang Wanquan himself, who visited Khathmandu last month. It was also the first visit by a Chinese defense Minister in 15 years.

“Nepal and share a multi-faceted tie and a joint exercise broadens that relationship,” said the former Nepali ambassador to China.

Beijing is also willing to provide investment of USD 8.3 billion to in grand infrastructure projects, dwarfing entirely the offer of USD 317 million to Nepal.
