More than 2,100 Iranian fighters killed in Iraq, Syria: Iranian official
Mohammad Ali Shahidi briefed the press said:
“Some 2,100 martyrs have been martyred so far in Iraq or other places defending the holy mausoleums.”
Shahidi, is head of Iran’s Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs. He was speaking at a conference on martyrdom culture in Tehran.
In November, Shahidi gave a figure of the fighters who got killed, but in the recent statement the figure was more than double the number he gave in November, that too only referred to Syria, this time it includes fighters who went to Iraq also.
Along with Russia, Iran is also supporting and backing the Syrian President Bashar al-Asad and to fight against IS group, it is also organizing fighters against IS and sending them into Iraq and Syria.
